The traditional insurance and reinsurance seminar organised by Reactions magazine had to be held online. This time it was a webinar that brought together senior Latin American insurance industry executives, including Gallagher’s Chairman for Latin America, Lionel Soffia.
The leader for Chile and the region of the insurance and reinsurance broker participated as a speaker in an entertaining webinar entitled Insurance and reinsurance in times of social upheaval: lessons learned.
From an insurance perspective, he commented on the situation experienced in Chile during 2019, which also affected other nations on the continent, and how the response was delivered.
On the occasion, Soffia stressed that social upheaval events provide an opportunity to show the real value of insurance. “Such events allow us to demonstrate that we are an essential part of economies. That is why our task is to guide customers, show them the best solutions and work with companies”. He added that this requires teamwork to generate the best solutions.

Speakers agreed that societies are going through very turbulent periods, both because of the effects of the pandemic and because of possible new crises such as the one in 2019. In that context, Soffia explained that companies in Chile have realised that social unrest is a real risk and have mostly been willing to pay to be protected from them.
